The Treasure Hunter is a feature documentary following the trials and tribulations of a real-life treasure hunter over seven years.

Production began for The Treasure Hunter in 2017 when Giacomo Gex the director began filming his childhood friend Jack and his father on their journey to find the legendary Japanese buried treasure in the Philippines known as Yamashita’s Gold.

Over the seven years Giacomo has been to the Philippines for production three times as well as London and Mexico for additional photography. Post-production started as early as 2019 and the film was finally completed in May 2024. The documentary recently finished its festival run around the globe including a world premiere at the acclaimed documentary festival - Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival in 2025 as part of the Newcomers competition, the top Asian film festival QCinema International Film Festival in the Philippines, DOCVILLE International Film Festival in Belgium and the Global Cinema Film Festival in Boston, USA.

The Treasure Hunter will have it’s UK theatrical cinema release in September 2026.
